This gown includes five separate pieces: the bodice, overskirt, underskirt, chemise blouse and modesty panel. It is made with a medium weight lovely mint blue & champagne damask fabric and embellished with ivory venise lace and jacquard trim. It will be made to your measurements and snugness preference.
PLEASE NOTE: This style can be made in many other fabrics. Trim and underskirt fabric will be coordinated accordingly. I’m happy to send fabric swatches.
The Bodice is designed to achieve the period-correct conical figure (no darts or princess seams) by pressing the chest and stomach flat and squeezing the bosom up above the neckline. (Unfortunately, my dress form can’t “squish”, but hopefully you get the idea!). It is embellished with a tabbed peplum and tabbed shoulder treatments. Cording laces up the back through 20 silver grommets. The cording ends are crimped with aiglets for ease of threading and a nice, finished look. It is lined with heavyweight upholstery fabric, interlined with heavy decor weight interfacing and contains 9 pieces of supportive boning (a combination of spring steel, spiral steel and heavy weight poly). This bodice is sufficiently supportive and sturdy so no additional underpinnings (corset) are necessary. The tighter it’s laced, the more “push up and together” effect you’ll get. The neckline is designed for displaying a lovely decolletage.
Bodice Bust is 33-1/2″ (will fit busts 33-1/2 to 40″ with modesty panel)
Bodice Waist is 27-1/2″ (will fit waists 27-1/2″ to 31-1/2″ with modesty panel)
The Overskirt This split panel skirt has been painstakingly gathered and attached to a matching waistband to eliminate bulk at the waist. It closes with hook and eyes. The bodice will cover the waistband and the gathered skirt will ‘pop’ just below. The openings of the split front have been embellished with more of the lovely venise lace. Serge hemmed to a length of 49″.
The Underskirt Is made with a a front panel of two layers of embroidered taffeta in a pretty champagne color and two more panels of natural muslin. Drawstring waist with reinforced openings for the cording. Serge hemmed to a length of 49″.
The Chemise Blouse Is made with a beautiful allover lace fabric in white. Historically, the higher the social class, the more pristine the chemise which is why I opted not to dye or tea stain this fabric, but that would certainly be an option for the wearer. It is 100% cotton and boasts extra full sleeves with a feminine scalloping at the ruffled wrists. Neckline adjusts with drawstring ribbon.
The Modesty Panel Is a rectangular piece which perfectly matches the bodice and is designed to lay under the cording. This allows the wearer to loosen the cording without showing the underlying chemise and also allows for more size options.
The gown is displayed with a bum roll and hoop slip, both of which will be necessary in order to achieve this look. They are not included in this purchase.
