The Garden Party Gown

The Bodice is designed to achieve the period-correct conical figure (no darts or princess seams) by pressing the chest and stomach flat and squeezing the bosom up above the neckline. (Unfortunately, my dress form can’t “squish”, but hopefully you get the idea!). It is embellished with coordinating fabric and jacquard trim.  The shoulders have a combination cap and tabbed epaulet treatment.  Cording laces up the back through 18 grommets. The cording ends are crimped with aiglets for ease of threading and a nice, finished look. It is lined with heavyweight upholstery fabric, interlined with heavy decor weight interfacing and contains 9 pieces of supportive boning (a combination of spring steel in the front and sides and lightweight poly in the back to reinforce the grommets). This bodice is sufficiently supportive and sturdy so no additional underpinnings (corset) are necessary.  The tighter it’s laced, the more “push up and together” effect you’ll get. The neckline is designed for displaying a lovely decolletage.

The Overskirt This split panel skirt has been painstakingly gathered and attached to a matching waistband to eliminate bulk at the waist.  It closes with hook and eyes.  The bodice will cover the waistband and the gathered skirt will ‘pop’ just below. The openings of the split front have been embellished with more of the coordinating fabric and trim.  It is serge hemmed to your desired length, ready for final hemming by your tailor.

The Underskirt Is made with a a front panel of breathtaking embroidered cream colored faux silk and three additional panels of natural muslin.  Drawstring waist with reinforced openings for the cording. Serge hemmed to your desired length.

The Chemise Blouse Is made with matching sleeves using the same embroidered faux silk fabric as the underskirt panel and the torso in natural muslin.   It boasts extra full sleeves with a feminine scalloped and floral lace at the ruffled wrists. Neckline adjusts with drawstring ribbon.

The Modesty Panel Is a rectangular piece which perfectly matches the bodice and is designed to lay under the cording. This allows the wearer to loosen the cording without showing the underlying chemise and also allows for more size options.

The Bodice Jewelry Is made with a combination of gold-plated findings, pearl-like cabochons and glass pearls.  It attaches to the bodice with tie tack type pins and closures.
