Elizabethan Court Gown
Ensemble includes
Lilac & Champagne Bodice with Epaulets,
Matching Overskirt, Underskirt,
Chemise and Bodice Jewels
This isn't just a dress... It's a scrumptious, sugary confection!
Guaranteed to make jaws drop and mouths water.
Which if done simultaneously, can get a bit messy,
but cleaning up the puddles of drool will not be your problem!
(Just don't let the dress drag through them. Yuk.)
Perfect for Renaissance or Elizabethan Weddings, elegant Masquerade Balls or
making a spectacular entrance at the gates of the Faire...
(Even though this is listed as a "costume", it is far superior to "costume-quality" garments...believe me, there is a difference.
My high-quality historical clothing will last for many years of enjoyment.)
The
Bodice
is made of a lovely lilac and champagne damask fabric (the lilac color is more evident in person). The attached epaulets/shoulder caps are made from the same fabric and are accented with cream and champagne jacquard ribbon. More jacquard ribbon embellishes the neckline.
This back-lacing bodice is designed to achieve the period-correct conical figure by pressing the chest and stomach flat and squeezing the bosom up above the neckline. (Unfortunately, my dress form can't "squish", but hopefully you get the idea!).
Rich champagne cording laces up the back through 30 silver grommets. A matching modesty panel is also included to allow for multiple sizes and also so the cording can be loosened without the chemise showing between the grommets. The cording ends are crimped with aiglets for easy threading and a finished appearance. This sturdy Bodice has three pieces of 1/2" carbon steel boning (plastic coated with rounded ends) in the front section, poly boning in the side seams and the back seams to reinforce the grommets, heavy interfacing for structure and support and is lined with heavy weight tapestry fabric.
YOUR bust and waist measurements should be at least the same as the Bodice and can be up to3 inches LARGER. The tighter it's laced, the more "push up and together" effect you'll get.
The
Overskirt
is made with the same damask fabric as the bodice and is embellished with jacquard trim along the opening of the split front. More than four yards of fabric have been painstakingly gathered and sewn to a sturdy same-fabric waistband. This results in less bulk under the bodice and a nice "pop" of fabric just below the waist, making the waist look smaller. (I prefer gathering to pleating because it "pops" more.)
Heavy hook and eye closures are attached to the waistband at the measurement of 30". This skirt can easily expand four additional inches by simply moving the hook and eye closures. Skirt circumference closed is approximately 150 inches. Serge hemmed to your desired length..ready for final hemming by your tailor.
(Shown with a hoop slip and bum roll which are not included.)
The Underskirt
Is made with a front panel of ivory jacquard fabric which has a woven diamond design in champagne. The remainder is made with lightweight, comfortable muslin. It has a drawstring waist for the perfect fit.
Circumference is approximately 150 inches. Serge hemmed to your desired length..ready for final hemming by your tailor.
The
Chemise
The sleeves are made with more of the ivory & champagne
jacquard. The blouse-length torso (which doesn't
show) is made with muslin...very cool and comfortable
under the bodice. Delicate venise lace adorns the
ruffled wrists. It has an adjustable drawstring neckline
and elastic at the ruffles (a small section of elastic
is exposed on the inside for easy adjustment). One
size fits most. It measures approximately 50 inches
in width.
The
Bodice Jewels
Are made with a combination of Swarovsky crystals, hand-chained Swarovsky glass pearls, acrylic cabochons and silver-toned filigree settings. They attach to the bodice with tie-tac type pinning devices.
